The live-action version of Tangled<\/a> has reportedly been put on pause after Snow White<\/a> bombed at the box office.<\/p>\n

Disney<\/a> is believed to be reassessing the potential of other live-action movies in the wake of Snow White’s poor performance at the box office<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The film, starring Rachel Zegler<\/a> as the titular princess and Gal Gadot<\/a> as the Evil Queen, failed to replicate the magic of the 1937 original, grossing just $69 million (\u00a353 million) domestically and $145 million (\u00a3111 million) worldwide.<\/p>\n

This is against a production budget of $270 million (\u00a3203 million), leaving Disney significantly in the red.<\/p>\n

Sources reportedly confirmed that pre-production on the live-action version of the 2010 animated feature Tangled has been put on ice.<\/p>\n

The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> states producers had started booking meetings with potential talent to star in the remake, however, all live-action adaptations are now believed to be on hold as the studio takes a closer look at its production strategy.<\/p>\n

development with The Greatest Showman’s Michael Gracey on board to direct with a script by Thor: Love and Thunder’s Jennifer Kaytin Robinson.<\/p>\n<p>Disney also has live-action iterations of its hit movies Lilo & Stitch and Moana, in the works for release this May and in July 2026 respectively.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/03\/15\/earth-going-frenzied-woke-backlash-disneys-snow-white-22717294\/\">Snow White<\/a> has been plagued with controversy, angering some over its <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/03\/13\/dwarf-actors-blast-snow-white-remake-replaced-cgi-characters-22718513\/\">reimagining of the seven dwarf characters<\/a> as <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2023\/07\/24\/disney-hasnt-gone-woke-by-replacing-snow-whites-seven-dwarves-19181590\/\">‘magical creatures.’<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Lead actress Zegler <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/03\/14\/rachel-zegler-praised-swift-response-ignorant-snow-white-casting-comment-22731761\/\">faced racist abuse from trolls<\/a> over her Latina heritage, with some going as far as starting petitions for her to be recast.<\/p>\n<p>An early interview in which she <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2023\/08\/24\/how-some-disney-fans-are-treating-rachel-zegler-makes-me-sick-19380567\/\">declared the original Snow White movie ‘weird’<\/a>, angered die-hard fans of the source material.<\/p>\n<p>Snow White and Disney <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/03\/28\/petition-launched-defend-rachel-zegler-snow-white-controversy-gathers-steam-22809941\/\">faced backlash from film critics and fans alike<\/a> who criticised media coverage of Zegler’s previous tweets addressing her views on Palestine and Donald Trump.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item
