GamingCD Projekt has discussed its technical ambitions for The Witcher 4, which marks a big change in strategy for the studio.
The history of CD Projekt is rooted in the PC market, stemming back to the original The Witcher in 2007 and their origins as a CD-ROM importer, but development of The Witcher 4 will see the studio make a shift in priorities.
The majority of CD Projekt’s games have been built for PC first, with console versions scaled down from this baseline to accommodate their technical limitations. However, this method has caused some issues in the past, with console versions of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Cyberpunk 2077 riddled with problems at launch – especially the latter.
An Unreal Engine 5 demo for The Witcher 4 earlier this month indicated a possible sea change at the studio, showing the upcoming sequel running on a standard PlayStation 5 at 60fps. Now, CD Projekt has confirmed Sony’s console is the priority for The Witcher 4.
When asked by Digital Foundry, about the reasons why it chose to show the Unreal Engine 5 demo on PlayStation 5, Charles Tremblay, vice president of technology at CD Projekt, said: ‘As you said, we always do PC and we push [the technology] and try to scale down. But then we had so many problems in the past that we tried to see, ok this time around we really want to be more console-first development.’
After noting the challenge of targeting 60fps on PlayStation 5 with a game like The Witcher 4, he added: ‘Where we go from there is hard to say, but right now we really wanted to focus on what does it mean to make this ambition on a console, and we have all our other projects at 60fps and we really wanted to aim for 60fps once again.’
While it remains to be seen what this means for the PC version, Tremblay did reassure PC players that it still wants to offer the ‘best experience’ for those on the platform.

When asked how the studio would potentially scale up The Witcher 4 beyond PlayStation 5, Tremblay said: ‘I don’t want to go too much in details and again, not to overpromise, but in the past something that’s super important for the group is that if people pay good money for their hardware, then we want them to have what the game can provide for that. Not like a simplified experience. So this is something we’ll definitely explore.
‘The company started as a PC company and we definitely will want to have the best experience for the PC gamer for sure, but it’s too early to say what it will mean for The Witcher 4.’
According to Tremblay, the bigger hurdle is scaling down from the PlayStation 5 version, most notably for the Xbox Series S.
‘This is something that is next on our radar for sure,’ Tremblay replied, when asked about the Xbox Series S version. ‘I will say that 60fps will definitely be extremely challenging on [Xbox] Series S. Let’s just say this is something that we need to figure out.’
As per Microsoft rules, developers have to ensure their games can run on both the Xbox Series X and the Xbox Series S, with no difference in features. This has caused problems in the past, with Baldur’s Gate 3 being delayed on Xbox Series X/S due to issues related to the lower-powered console.
The Witcher 4 doesn’t have a release date yet but it is expected to launch in 2027, with a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 set to follow.
That’s around the time that the PlayStation 6 has been rumoured for release, but unsurprisingly Tremblay made no mention of that.

FilmAn ‘outstanding’ psychological thriller with a stellar cast has been added to Netflix just in time for its 20th anniversary.
Copycat, released in 1995, follows Dr Helen Hudson (Sigourney Weaver), who has become agorophobic after being attacked by the deeply deranged Daryll Lee Cullum (Harry Connick Jr).
But she must face her fears when approached by police officers M. J. Monahan (Holly Hunter) and Reuben Goetz (Dermot Mulroney) as they believe a copycat killer is on the loose, and Dr Hudson is their best hope of catching them.
Copycat proved a moderate box office success at the time of its release, but it really took off on the video rental market, becoming the 11th most-rented film in the US for 1996.
It has been dubbed one of the ‘best’ psychological thrillers of the 90s, and currently holds a 76% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The critics’ consensus reads: ‘Copycat’s outstanding cast helps this often unpleasant thriller transcend the less palatable elements of its standard-issue story.’
‘For anyone who likes to stoke adrenaline with anxiety, Copycat delivers the goods,’ Newsweek said in their review.
Variety wrote: ‘What the world would not seem to need right now is yet another serial killer thriller, but Copycat has both the smarts and the tension to rate as a potent entry in the overworked genre.’
The Chicago Sun Times said: ‘Copycat doesn’t have the dark tones of Seven, or that movie’s distinctive look. But in its own way, it is as effective. It creates original characters and makes them more important than the plot. We care, and that’s the key.’
Entertainment Weekly added: ‘The violence in Copycat is going to freak out fans of Hunter and Weaver, but then, the movie’s emotional depth is going to shock your average slasher-film fan.’
The Horror Queers Podcast surmised in a retrospective review: ‘Weaver and Hunter are at the top of their game, elevating what is essentially a 2-hour episode of a CBS crime procedural into high art.’
Speaking on SiriusXM last year, Connick Jr, who played the film’s infamous psychopath, revealed he only met Alien icon Weaver at Copycat’s premiere after she allegedly avoided him on set.
‘Sigourney Weaver, she’s so unbelievable. She wouldn’t talk to me,’ he recalled.
‘I didn’t meet her till the premiere. She would not— every time I came around, she went the other way. She was like, “I don’t want to be around that guy!”‘
He joked: ‘I remembered what it was like to be in high school.’
In an interview at the time of the film’s release, Weaver said she was often a ‘basket case’ while filming such dark subject material.
‘It took a lot out of me, I think. A great thing happened, which was I met a wonderful karate teacher in San Francisco. Every night, even if we ended at like 9:30, I would meet with him for an hour and I’d practice kicks and everything,’ she said.
‘I don’t think I could’ve gotten through without it because it was very centering, and I think it also took me out of that victim frame of mind.’
Copycat is available to stream on Netflix.

GamingSales figures for the Switch 2 in the US and Japan are both record breakers, as Nintendo celebrates a successful launch.
After insiders claimed the Switch 2 was set to break worldwide sales records, Nintendo has confirmed the console has done exactly that.
In a post on X, Nintendo announced the Switch 2 has sold over 3.5 million units worldwide in its first four days, making it not only the fastest-selling Nintendo console ever but the fastest-selling console of all time.
This means the Switch 2 is already outpacing the original Switch, which managed 2.7 million units within its first month in 2017. Nintendo set a target of 15 million sales for the Switch 2 by the end of March next year, and if stock remains plentiful, these early figures suggest it will surpass that number easily.
While Nintendo has only talked about the console’s sales in terms of the company’s own history, it appears to be the fastest-selling console ever. The PlayStation 5 shipped (not sold) 3.4 million units within its first four weeks, while the PlayStation 4 sold 2.1 million units within its first month.
Sony’s PlayStation 5 was subject to significant stock shortages amid the pandemic, so the Switch 2’s success is a reflection of Nintendo’s efforts to ensure there’s plenty of supply. Prior to launch, Nintendo said it planned to have enough consoles to counter scalpers, and it seems like that strategy has worked.

As for UK numbers, the Switch 2 is the fastest-selling Nintendo console ever in the country, but it is the fourth overall behind the Xbox Series X/S, the PlayStation 4, and the PlayStation 5. The UK has always been Nintendo’s least successful major market though, so that isn’t surprising.
Nintendo has a much more successful history in the US, where the Switch 2 enjoyed the biggest launch week of any console ever. A total of 1.1 million consoles were sold in the first week, with an attach rate for Mario Kart World of 80%. The next two most successful launch games after that were Cyberpunk 2077 and Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition.
Nintendo Switch 2 set a new all-time launch week unit sales record for video game hardware in the US, with over 1.1 million units sold during the week ending June 7, 2025 (excludes sales from the My Nintendo Store). The record was previously held by PlayStation 4.
— Mat Piscatella (@matpiscatella.bsky.social) 2025-06-13T19:57:22.329Z
It was a similar story in Japan, where the console sold 947,931 units in its first week – and that’s not even including sales via the My Nintendo Store. The US has almost three times the population of Japan, so that’s quite the achievement.
The Switch 2’s success is particularly impressive considering its launch line-up, outside of Mario Kart World, is devoid of essential exclusives from Nintendo.
There is strong third party support but only for existing titles, some of which are fairly old. The only two exclusive third party titles are Konami’s Survival Kids and the budget-priced Fast Fusion.
Nintendo’s first party output is set to expand in the coming months, with Donkey Kong Bananza, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Kirby Air Riders, and Pokémon Legends: Z-A all expected to arrive before Christmas.
Nintendo also recently announced a Splatoon spin-off called Splatoon Raiders, although it’s unclear when it will be released.

TVNick Frost, who was recently cast in the upcoming Harry Potter reboot, is set to appear in a new hit sitcom with trans comedian and singer Jordan Gray.
The 53-year-old actor, who will be playing Hogwarts groundskeeper Rubeus Hagrid in the HBO revival, stars opposite Jordan in Transaction, which is set to launch on ITV.
The Shaun of the Dead star and other adult actors cast in Harry Potter recently came under fire for joining the show, due to JK Rowling’s comments about the trans community.
Nick turned off the comments on his Instagram profile following the backlash, and insisted in an interview that the author’s views did ‘not align’ with his own.
In Transaction, his character – supermarket boss Simon – sparks backlash in the LGBTQ+ community after a marketing campaign goes badly wrong.
He employs transgender woman Liv (Jordan) in a bid to turn things around, but he soon faces another struggle as she’s described in the synopsis as someone who ‘ticks the diversity box, but not much else’.
ITV teases: ‘Despite a non-existent work ethic, it’s pretty much impossible for Liv to get the sack, encouraging her to wreak havoc on the supermarket night shift.’
‘My one true goal with this show is to create something as timeless as my implants,’ Jordan shared when the show was announced.
Executive producer Kenton Allen said at the time: ‘Transaction promises to be a very eye-catching contemporary comedy, with Jordan Gray, Nick Frost and Thomas Gray forming an unlikely but electric three-some.
‘Jordan’s razor-sharp writing and timing paired with Nick’s legendary comedic presence is comedy dynamite.’
The comedy is based on her former six-part series of shorts of the same name for Comedy Central, which followed the same plot.
She told Gay Star News in 2020 that she wrote the piece as a way of creating a character who was a ‘regular tit-for-brains, not some tragic hero’.
Jordan, 36, rose to fame as The Voice’s first transgender contestant in 2016, making it to the semi-finals before moving into comedy, appearing on the likes of The Russell Howard Hour and Friday Night Live.
On the later in 2022, she performed her song Better Than You about life as a transgender woman, and stripped naked to play the piano with her penis.
Nick was recently forced to respond to criticism facing the Harry Potter show and wider franchise over its creator’s comments, which some have deemed as transphobic.
In a recent interview with The Observer, the Shaun of the Dead star insisted he does not share Rowling’s views.
‘She’s allowed her opinion and I’m allowed mine, they just don’t align in any way, shape or form,’ he said.
He also argued that the controversy and backlash might not be something people should want to ‘blow over’ for the sake of the wizarding franchise.
Asked if it could ‘overshadow the series’, he replied: ‘I don’t know. But maybe it shouldn’t blow over? We shouldn’t just hope it will go away, because it makes it easier. Maybe we should educate ourselves.’
Nick will be following in the footsteps of late actor Robbie Coltrane, who played Hagrid in the Harry Potter films, and he’s not concerned with filling the character’s giant shoes.
‘You get cast because you’re going to bring something to that. While I’m really aware of what went before me in terms of Robbie [Coltrane]’s amazing performance, I’m never going to try and be Robbie,’ he told Collider.
‘I’m going to try and do something, not “different”, I think you have to be respectful to the subject matter, but within that, there’s scope for minutia.’
He added: ‘I always read Hagrid as he’s like a lovely, lost, violent, funny, warm child. I think the beauty of being able to do a book a season means I get to explore that a lot more, and I can’t wait.
‘He’s funny! I want it to be funny and cheeky and scared and protective and childlike. That’s what I’m planning on doing.’
Transaction launches on June 24 on ITVX, where all episodes will be available to stream.

GamingAmid rumours of a next gen patch for Red Dead Redemption 2, the voice actor for John Marston has teased an announcement for this week.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of several third party games rumoured to be getting a Nintendo Switch 2 port, alongside the likes of Halo and Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
Developer Rockstar hasn’t announced anything about a new version of the Western epic, but per a report last month, a Switch 2 version is expected to launch later this year, around the same time as a next gen patch for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
While we’ve heard nothing since, the actor who plays John Marston in Red Dead Redemption and its sequel has teased some ‘exciting news’ for later this week – and many believe it could be Nintendo related.
During a Twitch livestream on Saturday, while he was playing the original Red Dead Redemption, actor Rob Wiethoff said: ‘I’ve got such exciting news. I can’t share it with you right now and it’s absolutely killing me.
‘Not as soon as tomorrow but definitely before Friday, oh my goodness, the news I have to share. And I won’t be the only one sharing it, I cannot wait for you to know what’s going on.’
He added: ‘I am so excited. I truly cannot think of anything else, especially playing this game, I can’t think of anything else other than what I want to tell you so bad.’

While there’s a chance he could be talking about something else entirely, the obvious conclusion is an announcement for Red Dead Redemption 2 on current gen hardware.
If it does relate to a Switch 2 port, it could be tied to a Nintendo Direct, especially as they typically air on Wednesday or Thursdays. Nintendo has held a Direct in June consistently for years, but one hasn’t been announced for this month yet.
Rockstar announced the PlayStation 5 version of GTA 5 during a Sony State Of Play in June 2020, so it’s entirely possible the company could replicate the same strategy with Nintendo for Red Dead Redemption 2 – even if Rockstar, as shown with GTA 6, does have a habit of simply tweeting stuff out.
Rockstar has released several games on the Switch, including GTA: The Trilogy and the original Red Dead Redemption. These versions didn’t have online support, so it’s unclear if a potential Red Dead Redemption 2 port on Switch 2 would be the same.

TVIf you’re struggling to pass the time in between the last season of The Traitors and the hotly anticipated Celebrity version later this year, the BBC has something to tide you over.
The latest season of the show saw Leanne Quigley and Jake Brown take home the coveted cash prize, after a high-stakes finale that was filled to the brim with banishments.
Since then, the Beeb has released the star-studded cast list for the upcoming Celebrity Traitors, which includes Stephen Fry, Charlotte Church and Tom Daley among the recruits.
That show will arrive on screens this autumn, but if that feels too far away then the spin-off series The Traitors NZ has just dropped on iPlayer, with all 12 episodes now available to stream while the show airs on BBC Three.
The second season of the show sees 22 normie New Zealanders descend on Claremont Manor, which sits at the foot of Mount Horrible – real name – in Timaru.
The group of Kiwis battle it out at the roundtable in the hopes of winning up to $100,000 (equivalent to over £44,000).

The brand new season of the murder mystery is filled with the show’s classic mind games, kicking off with a wacky challenge that asks the contestants to scour the ground for body parts (albeit of a doll).
The first season of The Traitors NZ relied on offbeat casting decisions, with many contestants known to each other before entering the Manor, to make the show stand out from its British, American and Australian counterparts.
Anyone unsure whether or not to dive in, it’s hard to make a dismal season of The Traitors when the format is fairly bulletproof.
After the group of Traitors are selected by Henry in the first episode, the new season quickly gets to the murdering and manipulation.
Commenting underneath an X post announcing the new season of The Traitors NZ, @fansvfavourites went so far as to label it ‘By far the best English speaking series of The Traitors.’ High praise indeed.
@CJfromWA1 added: ‘I enjoyed this season some good players and deceiving.’
Elsewhere in The Traitors universe, the US spin-off is set to return soon with a new cast of celebrities waiting to enter the Scottish castle.
Hosted by the always brilliant Alan Cummming, the season four cast has been confirmed and includes names such as Love Island icon Maura Higgins and the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Lisa Rinna.
The Traitors NZ is available to stream on BBC iPlayer, with episodes airing on BBC Three from 8pm on July 16.

TVThe Apple TV Plus series praised by fans as the ‘perfect’ thriller, Slow Horses, has reportedly been renewed for a seventh season.
It’s a good time to be a fan of ‘the best spy show on TV’ starring Sir Gary Oldman after it was claimed that the series was starting production on yet another season before the fifth is even out.
In a TV landscape defined by shock cancellations and lengthy gaps between seasons – Slow Horses fans are the luckiest around.
Season five is coming out this September, season six has already wrapped production and according to Deadline, there are plans for season seven to roll cameras in late September, early October.
For those keeping track (and if you are looking for a mind-boggling statistic to share with your friends) that’s four aired seasons and three more on the way all in the time between Stranger Things season four and five.
Those new to the show, with an average score of 98% on Rotten Tomatoes, have 24 episodes of delicious action to catch up on before the fifth, sixth, and seventh season land. We’re seriously jealous.
If you have somehow been living under a rock, here’s the lowdown on what the unconventional espionage thriller is all about.
The Will Smith created series follows a ‘dysfunctional team of MI5 agents’ led by Oldman’s endearingly grumpy and gross Jackson Lamb with agent River Cartwright (Jack Lowden) determined to prove he’s got what it takes.
Soon our team finds themselves embroiled in ‘the espionage world’s smoke and mirrors to defend England from sinister forces’.
Honestly, it’s the kind of show you just need to watch to fully appreciate the critically acclaimed mix of absurd hilarity, high-stakes tension and surprising moments of tenderness.
[Jackson] Lamb is the embodiment of why Slow Horses is the best crime show to come out of the UK.
He does not fit the mould of a classic TV detective in the same way Slow Horses does not conform to the usual espionage show formula.
The drama does away with most thriller tropes – from an overabundance of female victims to missing children in backwater towns – and is all the more compelling for it.
Season 4 takes this up a notch by making the plot, normally what drives any thriller, almost secondary to the characters.
Despite their various vulgarities, I cried twice during the season because, for the first time in a long time in a crime drama, I actually cared about the characters.
It’s not just Oldman, who puts in a performance of a lifetime, but the rest of the Slough House misfits, I’m rooting for too.
The news of a season seven renewal has thrilled fans of the show who have taken to social media to celebrate and praise it for its tight seasons and pacey production timeline.
‘Good. I’m really enjoying this show. It’s so much fun,’ Roscoe_King wrote on Reddit.
‘The complete story arcs is extremely rewarding and it makes me want to watch the show far more than when everything is a cliff hanger,’ strangedistantplanet added.
‘Proper British 6 episodes seasons. No fat and it allows them to maintain the tension of the story. I’m here for this clockwork like turnaround,’ FoxMcCloudOwnsSlippy added.
‘Probably my fav current show, the pace at which they are churning this out is also fantastic. The entire cast is phenomenal, Oldman and [Jonathan] Pryce in particular,’ Fawkes_91 agreed.
‘Genuinely one of the most satisfying/addictive experiences I’ve ever had watching a tv show. Before I started I thought “oh nice, 24 episodes. That should keep me entertained for the next month or so.”
‘Nope. Ended up watching all four seasons in like 5 days because I just couldn’t put it down,’ hic_forum_est said.
Slow Horses is based on a series of novels by Mick Herron with eight out so far and a ninth on he way – a promising sign for the future of the show with plenty more content still to adapt.
Metro has reached out to Apple TV Plus for comment.
Slow Horses seasons one to four are available to stream on Apple TV Plus now. The fifth season lands on September 24, 2025.

Final Pass
I agree with a lot of what was said about the current state of Xbox in the Reader’s Feature this weekend and how the more Microsoft spends, and the more companies they own, the less the seem to be in control. Which is very strange really.
The biggest recent failure has got to be Game Pass, which has not had the impact they expected and yet they don’t seem ready to acknowledge that. If they’re thinking of increasing the price again, like those rumours say, then I think that will be the point at which you can draw a line under the whole idea and admit it’s never going to catch on.
But would Microsoft ever shut down Game Pass completely? I feel that would almost be more humiliating than stopping making consoles, so I can’t really imagine it. Instead, they’ll make it more and more expensive and put more and more restrictions on day one games until it’s no longer recognisable.
Grackle
Panic button
Strange to see Sony talking relatively openly about Nintendo and Microsoft as competition. I can’t remember the last time they mentioned either of them, even if they obviously would prefer not to have, if they hadn’t been asked by investors.
At no point did they acknowledge that the Switch has completely outsold both their last two consoles, so I’m not sure where their confidence comes from. I guess it’s from the fact that they know they’ve done nothing this gen and still come out on top, so from their perspective they’ve got plenty in reserve.

Having your panic button being ‘do anything at all’ must be pretty reassuring really. Nintendo has had to work to get where they are with the Switch but Sony is just coasting it.
Lupus
James’ Ladder
Jacob’s Ladder is a film I’ve been meaning to watch for a while, and I guessed the ending quite early on, but it feels like a Silent Hill film. I don’t know if you guys have seen it but it’s an excellent film and the hospital scene near the end, and the cages blocking off the underground early on, just remind me of the game.
A depressing film overall but worth a watch.

GC: Jacob’s Ladder was as a major influence on Silent Hill 2 in particular, even the jacket James is wearing is the same.

Seeing the future
I know everyone likes to think of themselves as Nostradamus, but I have to admit I have absolutely no clue what Sony is planning for the PlayStation 6. A new console that is just the usual update, that sits under your TV, is easy enough to imagine but surely they’re not going to do that again?
But the idea of having new home and portable machines that come out at the same time seems so unlikely to me. Surely the portable wouldn’t be a separate format, but I can’t see it being any kind of portable that runs its own games because it’d never be as powerful as the home machine. So, it’s really just a PlayStation Portal 2?
Like I said, I don’t know, but for some reason I have a bad feeling about that the next gen and whatever Sony does end up unveiling. I suspect that whatever they and Microsoft does it’s going to end up making the Switch 2 (and PC) seem even more appealing by comparison.
Gonch
Hidden insight
I’m not going to say that Welcome Tour is a good game but what I will say is that I found it very interesting at times and I’m actually kind of surprised that Nintendo revealed some of the information that they did. Most of it could probably be found out by reverse engineering it and just taking it apart but I’m still surprised it went into as much detail as it did.
You’re right that it’s all presented in a very dull way but personally I found the ‘Insights’ to be the best part of the game. The minigames really are not very good and I was always glad when they were over. So, while I would not necessarily recommend the game (it’s not really a game) I would say that it can be of interest to people who have an interest in how consoles work and how Nintendo think.

I’ve recently had the privilege of buying Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 from the website CDKeys, using a 10% discount code. I was lucky enough to only spend a total of £25.99; much cheaper than purchasing the title for console. If only Ubisoft had the foresight to see what they allowed to slip through their fingers. I’d also like to mention that from what I’ve read quite recently ,and a couple of mixed views, I don’t see myself cancelling my Switch 2. On the contrary, it just is coming across as a disappointment.
From the battery life to the lack of launch titles, an empty open world is never a smart choice to make not even Mario is safe from that. That leaves the upcoming ROG Xbox Ally that’s recently been showcased and is set for an October launch.
I won’t lie it does look in the same vein as the Switch 2, far too similar to the ROG Ally X model. Just with grips and a dedicated Xbox button. The Z2 Extreme chip has me intrigued, however. How much of a transcendental shift it makes is another question however. I’ll have to wait to receive official confirmation for a price and release date. But there’s also a Lenovo Legion Go 2 waiting in the wings. I hope we hear more information soon. Preferably before my 28th in August.

Tip of the iceberg
Interesting to hear about Cyberpunk 2077 running well on the Switch 2. I think if they’re getting that kind of performance at launch, from a third party not use to working with Nintendo hardware, that bodes very well for the future.
I think we’re probably underestimating the Switch 2 a lot at the moment and stuff we’ll be seeing in two or three years is going to be amazing, I predict. What I can’t predict is when we’ll hear about any of this. I really hope there’s a Nintendo Direct this week.

Changing opinions
So just a little over a week with the Switch 2 and after initially feeling incredibly meh about the new console and Mario Kart a little more playtime has been more optimistic about the console and much more positive about Mario Kart World.
It did feel odd having a new console from Nintendo that didn’t inspire that childlike excitement. An iterative upgrade isn’t very exciting and as I own a Steam Deck the advancements in processing weren’t all that exciting either. I can imagine someone who only bough an OG Switch back in 2017 really noticing the improvements but if you bought an OLED it’s basically a Switch Pro (minus the OLED).
The criminally low level of software support doesn’t help. I double dipped Street Fighter 6 only to discover I can’t transfer progress or DLC across from my Xbox, which sort of means if I want both profiles to have parity I have to buy everything twice! I also treated myself to a new Pro Controller and find using it for Street Fighter almost unplayable as the L and ZL buttons are far too easy to accidently press when playing.
Mario Kart initially felt like more of the same and it was only after I made an effort to explore the world map, unlock characters and karts, and try the new grinding/ollie mechanic that it clicked. I am now really enjoying it, especially the remixed soundtracks.
I do however want more Switch 2 exclusive experiences – going back through my back catalogue for improved frame rates doesn’t cut it Nintendo! As someone with a large digital library the system transfer was very frustrating and the new virtual cartridges are just awful – does a Switch 2 need to be online all the time now? Not the best idea for a portable system.
So, the start of a new console lifecycle and hopefully lots of new IP – I suspect Nintendo will try and get us to revisit our back catalogues first though.

Just thought I would mention that if anyone’s interested in purchasing the Mortal Kombat 1 Definitive Edition, which includes all DLC, that it’s currently an absolute steal on the Xbox store at £21.99.

I’ve just won my first Knockout Tour online race on Mario Kart World! I’ve got to say, the feeling is magnificent.

BBC One announcer Duncan Newmarch delivered a heartfelt Father’s Day message that struck a chord with viewers.
Newmarch is a familiar voice on the BBC, and has introduced some of the broadcaster’s biggest shows since he took on the role in 2004.
But it was his brief announcement ahead of Race Across the World that left viewers especially moved.
Just before the new episode aired, Newmarch said: ‘Whether you are with your dad, chatting on the phone, or just missing him… happy Father’s Day from BBC One.’
The continuity announcer then took to X to share a clip of the message, adding the caption: ‘A difficult line for me to read this year. Hope you’re with your dad or have spoken to him.’

The famous voice lost his dad, Douglas Newmarch, in July 2016, so it’s understandable that he found the words difficult to read.
Viewers were quick to support Newmarch on the social media site, and many shared their thoughts on his heartfelt message in the replies.
@chrissnelling wrote: ‘Really nicely, but simply put – and I’m sorry to hear it’s been especially hard.
‘Will have been just as poignant for many others, so thank you for keeping these continuity slots relevant and a reflection of what’s going on around the country’.
Another user, @cl_clarke, expressed their connection to the announcement: ‘Missing him…still…33 years for me this year.’
@chriswilliams76 remembered one of Newmarch’s previous emotional voice-overs: ‘It’s nearly five years since your continuity piece before the Strictly final went viral about the fact that Christmas wasn’t the Christmas we had all hoped for…’

Indeed, this isn’t the first time Newmarch has moved viewers with his words.
In December 2020, as the UK faced stricter Covid-19 rules, Newmarch shared a heartwarming message in an attempt to keep spirits high.
The message said: ‘Now, in a year that has kept us apart, whether you’re watching in Tyne and Wear, Devon, Berkshire, or Lincolnshire… we are all watching BBC One together.’
Newmarch tweeted following the announcement, expressing the raw emotion behind it: ‘Thank you for the kind comments about my line into the @bbcstrictly final.
‘After this afternoon’s news I had to rewrite a handful of scripts as they didn’t seem appropriate. This is why live announcers can make a difference.’
The announcement soon went viral, his words resonating with people across the nation.
Many viewers expressed their gratitude on social media, with one posting on X at the time: ‘It made me cry a little bit, because it was unexpected but perfectly put. Thank you.’
Newmarch was also praised by TV critic Scott Bryan, who said: ‘As many people have pointed out, those touching poignant words came from @DuncanNewmarch.’
The announcer later wrote back to declare his pride for his profession, saying: ‘Thanks Scott. After the PM’s announcement, some of tonight’s lines (written yesterday) just didn’t work so I had some last-minute rewrites.
‘Here’s to the live announcers across all channels.’

TVSoccer Aid 2025 got off to a rather chaotic start thanks to Tyson Fury’s potty mouth.
The former professional boxer joined a lineup of major celebrities taking part in this year’s event to raise money for UNICEF.
Playing for England were the likes of Louis Tomlinson, Jill Scott, Jermain Defoe, Sir Mo Farah, and Steven Bartlett, with Paddy McGuinness in goal.
They faced off against World XI, which comprised Big Zuu, Dermot Kennedy, Tony Bellew, and Gorka Márquez, to name a few.
Tyson, meanwhile, was on the management team for England alongside Wayne Rooney.
An enthusiastic Manchester United fan, the 36-year-old had declared his pride to welcome England to Old Trafford for the game, which is his club’s home ground.

Although it seems all that excitement got the better of him ahead of kick-off.
This led to presenters Alex Scott and Dermot O’Leary apologising to viewers, as the star dropped an F-bomb.
Captured in the training room ahead of the teams taking to the pitch, Tyson gave England a motivational speech.
During the talk, he told the players: ‘Let them know how good we are. We are f***ing Spartans! We are Spartans!’
Host Alex, 40, then told audiences at home: ‘We do apologise for the swearing. It’s Tyson; we don’t know what’s going to happen.’
Dermot added: ‘We do profusely apologise.’
Plenty of viewers saw the funny side of things, with @TJ_DCFC then joking on X: ‘Well that’s Tyson Fury never being allowed back to Soccer Aid ever again’.
‘Tyson Fury dropping the F Bomb at 6:30pm on a Sunday afternoon’, wrote @Miss_Terreh, followed by a crying laughing emoji.
@96_Mikeys blasted those complaining about his language, urging them to ‘grow up’, adding: ‘God forbid Tyson Fury swearing on Soccer Aid, and people moaning and groaning already!’
Fortunately, commentators Jason Manford and Sam Matterface also kept it light when they brought the incident back up later on.
Before the players left the tunnel, comedian Jason quipped: ‘They’ve taken the microphone off Tyson.’
Sam added that while his earlier speech was ‘explicit-laden,’ Tyson had ‘good intentions’.
He also recalled Tyson’s promise not to use his ‘hands or feet’ for the duration of the game while watching from the sidelines.
But, as you might have guessed, Tyson went on to swear another time.
Midway through the game, Alex checked in with him, asking whether England’s strong performance thus far was down to his management.
He laughed, saying he had merely been standing in the box, screaming, shouting, and ‘s**t like that’.
Upon being announced as a Soccer Aid coach this year, Tyson said: ‘ENGLAND MANAGER! Who would ever have thought it!?
‘I have had some big fights in my career, and the prospect of leading my England team to victory this June fills me with just as much excitement as any heavyweight fight!
‘Everyone knows that I am a huge Manchester United fan too, so it’s even more special for me that the game is at Old Trafford this year—and I get to manage one of my heroes, Wayne Rooney!
‘How can we lose!? The work UNICEF does all around the world is so special and so important.
‘I really hope that you can come along and support us this summer.’

Co-manager Rooney also played in the match, having scored England’s first goal this time, ahead of scores from Defoe and four goals from Carlos Tevez for World XI.
Tyson and Rooney were assisted in England’s coaching journey by Harry Redknapp and actress Vicky McClure, while former goalkeeper David James acted as the goalkeeping coach.
Joining them on the side of the pitch was Sam Thompson, who was due to play but was withdrawn due to injuries.
The podcaster and reality star raised over £2million for UNICEF last week by running and cycling 260 miles in five days to transport the match ball from London to Manchester.
His tearful Match Ball Mission saw him encounter various physical and mental obstacles along the way, with his legs ultimately left ‘falling apart’ and ruling him out of any pitch action this weekend.
But, in a sweet moment, Sam was able to join his fellow players for the last few minutes of the game, running out to huge cheers from the stadium.
Ultimately, World XI emerged from Soccer Aid 2025 victorious, with Big Zuu scoring the winning goal.
The TV chef secured the 5-4 triumph, with Robbie Williams, who founded the charity game in 2006, revealing this year’s game had raised £15,280,163.
